Sing for Fundraising!

Katy Perry and David Archuleta to sing at fundraising concert for Typhoon Ketsana/Ondoy victims.

After the cancellation of Katy Perry's October 3rd concert in Manila, Philippines, due to the consequences of the tropical storm known as Ondoy or Katsana, it is being reported that the singer of "Waking Up in Vegas" will now perform at a fundraising concert for the victims along with American Idol runner up and current teen pop star David Archuleta.

Outlets like Inquirer.net and online music community ATRL cite MTV Philippines and MTV as sources, according to which the Katy Perry and David Archuleta concert will now be "bigger and better." Other reports set the tentative concert date at October 17th, and inform that the raised funds would go to the Red Cross in order to help the victims of the natural tragedy.

Although this is still officially unconfirmed news, it is safe to say that, were the reports true, the concert would certainly be of great help to those affected by Typhoon Ketsana/Ondoy.

The first-ever showdown of outstanding young Pinoys was a huge success with three aspiring music video directors hailed as winners in the 1st SOP Music Video Awards. The awarding ceremony was held at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, and aired on GMA-7 last November 18.

Aspiring music video directors Richard Librada and Darlene Abigail Quito, both students of Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) and Roman Perez of University of the Philippines claimed the eight prestigious awards given out by SOP, the noontime variety show of the Kapuso Network.

Roman Perez (UP) won the Best Production Design for the music video of Aicelle Santos' song "Ikaw Pa Rin" while Darlene Abigail Quito (PUP) bagged the Best Video Editing and Texter's Choice awards for the music video of "Candlelight Romance" performed by Yasmien Kurdi.

The team behind the music video "All Out of Love" led by Richard Librada, an 18-year-old student of PUP, bagged most the awards including Best Videography, Best Concept/Story, Best Music Video, and Best Director. Dennis Trillo, who is part of Librada's team, won the Special Citation for Best Performance by An Artist for his remarkable performance in the music video.

The 1st SOP Music Video Awards is this year's feature of the grand annual musical event competition SOP Music awards. For four years now, SOP Music Awards has become the venue in recognizing exceptional talents of Filipinos and acknowledging artists and significant performances that uplifts the quality and standards of Original Pilipino Music (OPM).

This year, SOP Music Awards, through SOP Music Video Awards, has fulfilled its goal in discovering young aspiring music video directors from different university and colleges all over the country.

Other finalists in the first-ever SOP Music Video Awards were Elaine Melody Samonte (St. Paul College, QC), Ademar Garchitorena (University of San Jose Recoletos, Cebu), Maan Leynes (Centro Escolar University), and Nestor Abrogena (UP Diliman).

The awarding ceremony was hosted by SOP mainstays Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, and Jaya. Throughout the three-hour program, SOP co-hosts Karylle, Jay-R, Jolina Magdangal, Dingdong Dantes, Rufa Mae Quinto, and twins Richard and Raymond Gutierrez gave special numbers and provided trivia to entertain the audience.

Marimar star Marian Rivera led the opening number while the Pinoy Pop Superstar winners belted out with their songs as intermission numbers. StarStruck alumni Mark Herras, Marky Cielo, LJ Reyes, and Ryza Cenon performed an energetic dance number for the crowd composed mostly of university students and their supporters. The cast of Kamandag also came in full force while wearing their elaborate costumes as a way of promoting the fantaserye involving mortals and half-animal creatures.

Their special guest during the event was Movie and Television Review and Classification Board chairperson Consoliza Laguardia. In fact, during the portion called Sobrang OJ, the whole cast of SOP serenaded the MTRCB chair and made light of her job as a censor.

The masterpieces of the SOP Music Video Awards finalists were judged by three of the country's well-renowned directors: Bb. Joyce Bernal, Rico Gutierrez, and Louie Ignacio. The Texter's Choice Award, meanwhile, were based solely on the viewers' text votes.
